Modern Classics in the Home

The modern classics have remained a staple in every designer’s palette throughout the years. Airports, museums, school buildings, and office buildings greatly show the influence which the modern early design had. This has allowed the modern mid century furniture design to constantly evolve into the strong interior design that so many have come to love. The love for these modern masterpieces has brought an up rise of reproductions of the many classics that we have come to love, from the Eames lounge chair, to many other masterpieces.

Modern furniture is a way of life for many, some simply won’t have it any other way. Stemming from their love for simplicity, clean lines, and the sense of air and space which modern furniture tends to portray. Function and beauty combined through the designer’s creativity allows for beautifully aesthetic pieces to become the subtle centerpiece of any room.

The good news for those of us who share the passion for modern furniture but lack the large budget, is that there are many reproductions of the classics at a very flexible price rage. Examples such as the Wassily Chair designed by Marcel Breuer or the Eames Lounge Chair originally designed by Charles and Ray Eames.
Personally I don’t enjoy the reproductions as they typically don’t well resemble the original masterpiece. They typically are made from poor quality materials and rushed together, rather than with the proper techniques, materials and care that went into the original pieces.

Today’s modern furniture designs display the clean lines originally associated with the mid century classics. Modern design continues to evolve and reshape with the times. By using new mediums, new designs and the influx of new designers, new pieces of modern furniture are designed every day. Although the concept of the modern classic will always remain the same, the view of thinking inward and forward, with no boundaries while building functional works of art.
