What does “Mid Century” mean? ?

mid century furniture

What the heck does this mean? I have been seeing it in the furniture section of craigslist describing things, at first I thought that it was describing old furniture but I just saw a posting for some “mid century trailer lights” So now I have no clue…..is it describing the age of anything? Could I say that I have a mid century ________? If its old?
Thanks! For the answers!

A century is 100 yrs….so mid century refers to 1950ish or 50 something yrs old.

If it’s the 20th century, then it means around 1950. Literally the middle of the century.

It means from the 1940’s to early 60’s usually, so for example, if something was made in the 50’s it’s “mid century” it’s usually used to describe the style. If you look at some furniture from the 50’s and you think, “wow, that looks really 50’s”, that style is Mid Century Modern.

The term is used most often to describe the style of furniture, decor, architecture and cars.

Mid Century most commonly refers to an architectural, interior and product design form that generally describes pre- and post- second world war developments in modern design, architecture, and urban development from roughly 1933 to 1965.

Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the developers and practitioners of Mid Century architecture.

It can also generally mean the middle of any specific century. It would, of course, refer to the century in question. Example: Mid-18th century.
