Also, is there a difference between mid-century and mid-century modern furniture, or are they the same?
What’s the difference between contemporary and modern furniture styles?

Modern furniture is considered whatever is popular at the moment, usually plain, angular, straight forward in design. Contemporary furniture is basically without any particular look to it. And yes, there is a difference. Anytime you see a “style” associated with decor and furniture, it refers to a period when popular. Modern is always changing, Contemporary is frozen in time as to style-less, but pleasing, usually will go with anything. Modern is another story…it is hard to mix modern with other styles. My idea of modern (on the inexpensive side) is Ikea. There are also modern furniture houses that are nothing short of outrageously priced!
