How can I cover 1970’s Herman Miller fiberglass dining chairs without painting them?

I’m a college student living in an apartment that came with a set of the aforementiond chairs. The problem with them is that they are HIDEOUSLY yellow. My landlord says that we aren’t allowed to paint them because they are fiberglass and they will chip away quickly and look even worse than they do now (if that’s even possible).

Anything we do to the chairs must be reversible. Is there any kind of special fabric we could put on them, or does anyone have any other ideas? They are also sort of oddly shaped.

Here is a link to a chair that looks similar to mine:

except for that the ones in my apartment are WAY more yellow.

Help!
I WILL award points to the best answer, so please try to provide serious and helpful solutions.

  1. make some slip covers for them—hotels use them all the time for weddings & banquets to cover up unattractive chairs

  2. Oh yes, I remember these! Since they are fiberglass and you need to be able to remove whatever you do to them decoupaging them is out of the question, but would look awesome! But, what you can do to spruce them up is to adhere fabric to them with liquid starch or Aileens Tack it Over. With the liquid starch, you will have to soak the fabric in the starch, stretch it over the chair and let it dry. When you want to remove it, it will peel right off and you just have to wash away the starch. Aileens Glue you apply to the reverse side of the fabric, let it dry and it turns the fabric into a repositional sticker of sorts. You can also peel it off to remove, but the back of your fabric stays sticky. One final option is to make slipcovers for them. You’ll have some trickster work because of the way the legs attach under the seat, but a little hook and loop tape should help out on the underside.

Good luck, sounds like a fun project!
